Deborah Nichols, MS, LPC Intern

Taking the first step towards change is often the hardest part of transformation.  I believe that we all have a great capacity for healing, resilience, and growth.  Outside of the willingness to engage in therapy, I believe that creating a safe and supportive space can be the most important factor in fostering movement towards our goals.  By working according to a strength-based approach and pulling from a variety of modalities, I strive to be a catalyst for my clients to find the change and growth that they seek.  I firmly believe in meeting individuals, couples, and families where they are and celebrating successes, small or large along the way.

I have completed my Masters of Science Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and also hold a certification in Nutritional Therapy from Portland Community College.  I am currently a registered LPC Intern with the State of Oregon working towards licensure.  My approach to therapy is eclectic utilizing components of Cognitive Behavioral, Family Systems, and Interpersonal approaches.

As a parent of two sons, I have had to navigate the complicated medical system as well as the Special Education system.  This has led me to working as an advocate in professional settings for Learning Disabilities and Dyslexia as well as having an understanding of specialists and medical care.  It can be overwhelming managing the demands of parenting and understanding the complexity of the various systems involved.  As a therapist and advocate for my clients, I work with individuals and families to move through the processes and challenges that can arise with educational and/or medical diagnoses.

I have a keen passion for mindfulness practice and nutrition and will also incorporate my additional education and experience into my work as indicated and welcomed by clients.
