Krista Lawless MA, CMHC,NCC, LPC

Being authentic with others can make us feel vulnerable and seeking help with problems we are experiencing may feel scary. It takes courage! I firmly believe that finding a safe environment in which to encounter that help can play an important role in growth and healing through difficult times in our lives. As a therapist, I am dedicated to creating that safe environment. I value a respectful, compassionate and nonjudgmental approach with all clients. I believe that the client, alone, is the expert of himself or herself. My hope is to be a person who helps my clients in their journey through problematic pieces of their life, while maintaining and growing their own healthy sense of self.

I have a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor's degree in Social and Behavioral Studies from George Fox University. I have a long history of working with adolescent girls as a gymnastics coach and have a desire to continue working with this age group as I continue in the counseling field. I have a heart for women and women's issues including divorce, sexuality and self-actualization. I am driven toward helping those recovering from domestic violence and toxic faith situation. I have experience working with adult men and clients recovering from childhood sexual abuse and trauma. This are tough topics, but my professional and personal experiences have equipped me to feel confident in walking through the process of healing around those topics with my clients. Additional areas of focus include, but are not limited to couples counseling, teens, social/emotional issues, parent-child relationships, personal exploration and processing, development of coping and self-care tools, life skills and tools around communication, emotional regulation, self-compassion and distress tolerance.

I utilize an eclectic approach to therapy, pulling from a variety of theories and interventions, as individual client's needs guide me. Specifically, I have found that Narrative, Psychodynamic and Emotional Focused therapies along with the structure of Cognitive-Behavioral and Dialectical-Behavioral therapies allows me to understand my client's story. This leaves room for creativity and may address both emotional and behavioral aspects of individual needs. I work to discover how your life experiences can benefit you as you move forward in identifying feelings, thoughts and emotions. This, in turn, leaves the door open for great change and healing to occur. I would love to connect with you if you have any questions or would like to set up a consultation meeting.
